The baton visits the southside on Tuesday — but first up is Saturday, when the community comes together to celebrate with Hillpark Secondary at a Commonwealth Carnival.

The event, organised by the school’s chaplaincy team (led by Eastwood Parish Church minister Graham Cartlidge), takes place from 2-5pm.

There are games, sports tasters (including rugby, hockey, judo and badminton), barbecues, home baking, face painting and more, as well as live music from Samba Ya Bamba and the Eastwood Boys Brigade Pipe Band.

Gold medals will be dished out to all the participants, and the whole community is invited along to welcome in Glasgow 2014.
