Carnwath play park opening 2014 slideshow

The persistence and determination of CIB members saw them land £75,000 of funding from various sources, culminating in the official unveiling of the playpark on Friday.

Carnwath In Bloom chairman Kevin Lindsay told an assembled audience: “It is nice to stand here among this play equipment.

“Not so long ago this place was rundown. So it is nice to see all the new stuff.”

Clydesdale East Councillor Hamish Stewart cut the ribbon to officially open the playpark.

He said: “The workers have performed absolute wonders to oversee a complete transformation here.

“Well done to them all because it is a wonderful facility for the children of Carnwath.”

The first user of the playpark after its official opening was three-year-old Cole Dunbar, of Carnwath, who loved going down the zip slide.

His gran Lynn Dunbar said: “This new playpark is a great facility which has made a great difference to Carnwath. The playpark we used to have was wrecked by vandals.

“I’ll be here with Cole every day. He thinks the zip slide is absolutely great.”

Funding for the project – which saw the introduction of new swings, climbing frames and zip wire – came via South Lanarkshire Council’s Renewable Energy Fund, South Lanarkshire Rural Partnership Leader Fund, Muirhall Energy and Awards For All.

Kevin thanked them and his wife Roselyn, without whose help “we wouldn’t be here”. Work began 18 months ago and was carried out by the council.
