Villagers living in Allison Street, Allison Place, Pettinain Road and Kings Street are taking the action to fight a South Lanarkshire Council scheme which has already seen 16 council tenants rehoused.

The residents fear that the council plans to demolish all the local homes then sell off the land to a developer.

“It beggars belief that the council has been evicting people from their homes and re-housing them elsewhere,” said lifelong Allison Street resident Christopher Thomson, who owns a semi-detached property which he has spent several thousand pounds on upgrading.

“The 23 home owners living in these street are seriously concerned. Me and my wife Victoria have two kids aged three and seven months, so being forced out of this home would be a disaster for us.

“The amount of worrying that we’re doing is badly affecting our health.

“There are people in their 80s and 90s living around here and all this uncertainty is also doing them no good whatsoever.

“Everybody is stressed to the eyeballs.

“We’ve asked the council for a straight answer on what exactly is going to happen to the people still living here but we’ve yet to receive one.”
