Celtic legend in full swing at Cawder for Alzheimer research

The event will culminate with a ‘Forget Me Not Ball’ at Glasgow Marriott Hotel.

Alzheimer Scotland 
ambassador Dougie McCluskey, will host the debut golf day in memory of his late 
father, Adam McCluskey, who passed away with vascular dementia nearly two years ago.

The fundraiser and volunteer aims to put the annual event firmly on the calendar by raising vital funds to 
support people living with dementia, and their carers and families across the 
region.

Members of the public can enter for the chance to play on teams captained by some of Scotland’s football legends, with the likes of 
Lisbon lion Bertie Auld, Chic Charnley and Bobby Petta 
already signed up to the event which will be above par for dementia.

Mr McCluskey will host the debut event and hopes to raise over 10k for the cause which is close to his heart.

He said: “Organising an event like this seemed the obvious thing to do in my Dad’s honour as he loved golf and it’s my passion.

“It was the roughest time of my life watching someone I love deteriorating from this illness, knowing every visit he wouldn’t know who I was, or the rest of the family.

“It was heart-breaking. I made the decision to do everything I could to help raise awareness and raise funds for dementia.

Football legend Chris has also seen first-hand the impact of dementia after a member of his family was diagnosed.

Chris said: “Having met Dougie a few times at dementia events I have been really inspired by his plans to set up an annual golf event where members of the public can join forces with ex-footballers to help raise funds to support dementia.

“Hopefully the event will be a big success with families coming together across the region to honor and remember loves ones, and make a difference.”
