Charity ceilidh with an African beat will help raise vital funds

The group was founded by East Ren resident Phyllis Hutchison, in aid of stray animals being ill-treated in Tanzania — a second cause discovered while fundraising for a children’s orphanage in the same country.

The AfroCeilidh kicks off at the African Art Centre on November 27, 7.30pm, with help from the traditional Broomhill Ceilidh Band and drumming from Chief Amu Logoste, who runs the centre. Chief Amu, who is originally from Ghana, has been drumming for 30 years and continues to teach drumming in schools and at other events.

Phyliss commented: “We are trying desperately to fundraise to save dogs from being killed cruelly, but also to tackle the spread of rabies.

“While visiting Tanzania in May this year, a seven-year-old child, who lived in the village we were visiting, died from rabies.

“All of the profits from this event will go directly to helping in Tanzania.”
