He is also an extremely well known, active and knowledgeable participant in Scotland’s wider pipe band community.

And having competed at the Highland Games with Coalburn IOR since 1967, Donald (60) is hoping for another memorable event on Saturday, June 21.

He said: “I’m proud to be given this honour.

“I’m going to really enjoy the day.

“Because I’ve always been playing in the band I don’t get the chance to walk about and actually see what else is going on during the Games so I’m looking forward to that.

“I’m also going to enjoy watching the heavy events and the sports which will be taking place on the day.”
