Jean was retiring after a lifetime dedicated to educating young people.

The children performed a variety of poems and songs which reflected her nine years as their headteacher.

A special piece of artwork created by parent helper Mrs Wendy Postma – in which all the children had left their fingerprint – was presented to her.

She also received a Book of Memories compiled by the children.

The special assembly was followed by an afternoon tea-party attended by representatives from the cluster schools and members of the community, who were given their chance to say their farewells.

Entertainment was put on by ex-pupils of Milton, now at Lesmahagow High School.

Jean began her teaching career in 1975 at Cambusnethan Primary School, stopping for just three months maternity leave when she had her son Scott in 1983. Her daughter Allison followed in 1987, and at that point Jean took a career break to concentrate on her family.

She returned to teaching in 1992 when Allison started school and worked in numerous schools including Carluke’s Kirkton Primary and Carluke Primary, before moving to a permanent position in Crawforddyke Primary in Carluke.

Jean then moved to Carluke Primary where she secured a role as principal teacher.

She then attended evening classes at Strathclyde University to obtain her headteacher qualification, and that led to her appointment as acting head at Auchengray Primary School.

She was there for two years before moving to Milton Primary in August 2006.

Colleagues and pupils all wish Jean good health to enjoy a well-deserved retirement after her long career in teaching.
