Clarkston cake judging takes its Toll

Clarkston Toll - landmark border between Eastwood and Glasgow - looked good enough to eat to the judges at today's Great Clarkston Bake Off.

The cake contest was a highlight of today’s busy Clarkston Food Festival, with 45 tasty entries to consider, and after considerable debate the under-16 category ended in a dead heat.

The judges felt they simply could not split the top two entries, so it was decided to split the £100 prize instead.

Contestant Luca Jack’s effort was “a fantastic representation of the Clarkston Toll roundabout (featuring brilliant rice crispie treat trees)”, while dynamic duo Callum and James earned equal honours (and £50) with their delicious Chocolate Volcano Cake.

The winner of the over-16 category was a Ms Gayathri, with a beautiful carrot cake.

A spokesperson for the judging team said: “The standard in both the over-16 and under-16 categories was exceptionally high.

“We were blown away, and will certainly look to host this event once again in 2018 - so get practising!”
