In the second phase the A72 will be closed between the south end of Rosebank to the Popinjay Hotel.

Phase three will take place from Monday, September 16 to Friday, September 20 and will see the A72 closed between the Popinjay Hotel and Dalserf Lodge. Work will only take place during daylight hours.

The final phase, phase four, will close the road between Dalserf Lodge and Garrion Bridge and will take place from Monday, September 23 until Thursday, September 26.

All the dates and timings are dependent on the weather but every effort will be made to keep the project within the timescales.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Enterprise Services Committee, Councillor Chris Thompson, said: “We appreciate these works will have a significant impact on travelling times and cause disruption to many road users.

“I can only apologise for that, but it is important to point out that the poor condition of the road means these are an absolute necessity.”

The main diversion route will be along the A71 through Overtown to Waterloo Roundabout, A721 to Bogside, A73 through Carluke to Lanark and the A72 Clydeside to the end of the closure.

Access to Dobbies Garden Centre will be maintained at all times from Lanark.
