Coalburn family get on their bikes for charity

Jim Martin (40) along with 19-year-old son Dale will be cycling for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and will begin the mammoth trip on July 29.

Jim’s brother-in-law Scott (21) was the driving force behind the effort, but unfortunately is unable to compete due to a back injury.

The family are aiming to raise the money in aid of Jim’s eight-year-old son Robbie who suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Jim said: “It has been very hard work and we have been training for the past eight months. At the moment we have been doing 90 mile cycles at the weekend and 20 mile cycles during the week.

“Scott said that we should do something big and we just decided to go for it.

“Unfortunately because of his injury he won’t be able to do it all but he will be coming along with us to help us and will do a bit of cycling to push us along.

“I’ve had a lot of support from people who have done events like this in the past and we are hoping to finish it in 10 or 11 days with one rest day.”
