“The gala day was absolutely fantastic; amazing,” said Coalburn Gala vice president Andrea Shankley.

“We are always overwhelmed by the number of spectators who turn out. The community spirit in this village is second to none.”

The floats, wheeled and walking procession entries were led from Victoria Hall to the public park in Coalburn Road by Coalburn IOR Pipe Band.

Last year’s Coalburn Gala Queen Abbie Brown crowned her radiant successor Niamh, who had earlier been led onto the stage by Lord in Waiting Ben Miller.

Entertainment after the crowning included dancing by Coalburn Jivers and DBA Dance With Susan.

There were also kids egg and spoon, skipping and running races, and local man John Neil won the tossing the Bellfield Stone Trophy.

Gala president Claire Robinson said: “A fantastic day was had by all.”
