Organisers believe that the relay will give everyone the chance to be part of the excitement and countdown to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, Scotland’s biggest-ever sporting and cultural event.

The identities of people picked to carry the baton – prominent folk nominated by the local community – will be revealed on March 31.

“It will be really excellent for South Lanarkshire when the baton comes through,” a Games spokesman said.

“It is something which people can really relate to. And it will be extra-exciting for spectators who see people they know carrying the baton.”
