Community effort for Poppy Appeal

Pupils and staff at Carolside Primary have thrown their weight behind the Poppy Appeal, thanks to a helping hand from one family member.

Millie Jordan, mother-in-law to teacher Jonathan Hull, has been making jewelled and crocheted poppies to sell to teachers and school staff, with all proceeds going to the appeal.

To date, Busby woman Millie and Carolside Primary has raised £170.

Mr Hull commented: “My mother-in-law’s crochet and jewel poppies have become very popular in the school.

“Pupils have been buying the paper poppies all week too.

“Total donations so far amount to around £170 and everyone has been wearing their poppies with pride.”

Schools across East Renfrewshire have been supporting the 2015 Poppy Appeal.

The Giffnock Army cadets have also been in touch to share their fundraising efforts for Poppy Scotland.

The cadets were enlisted to sell poppies at The Avenue in Newton Mearns, where they hope to top last year’s collection, which exceeded £1,000.
