Council blushes over sign error

Bearsden man Andrew Perry (20) was shocked to see that at least four or five signs he’s seen have the wrong spelling of Kilmardinny on them - with ‘Kilmardinnay’ instead.

Andrew, a former Bearsden Academy pupil, said: “It’s a bit daft, you would expect that at some stage within the sign making process they would make sure that they are spelled correctly.

“It’s probably cost quite a lot to install them in the first place and now they will need to pay for new ones that are right. What a waste of money!”

Thomas Glen, deputy chief executive of East Dunbartonshire Council, said: “Unfortunately, a spelling error was made on the signage for Kilmardinny Loch.

“These signs are being replaced and the costs will be met from within the original project budget.

“We hope to have the signage rectified as soon as possible.”

Kilmardinny Loch is a local nature reserve hidden within Bearsden. You can explore the woodlands for insects and birds such as long tailed tit and bullfinch.
