Council food waste bags change sparks debate on Facebook

A change in the supply of food waste bags to residents by East Dunbartonshire Council has sparked a debate on its
Facebook page.

It has replaced green compostable bags with white
plastic pedal bin liners.

Charlotte Winter posted: “Is there any point in using the food bin any more?”

While Laura Jones asked: “They don’t look compostable so don’t want to use them.” A council spokesperson said: “The firm which processes our food waste was having problems with the old green bio bags clogging up their system. Our food waste is not composted, it is processed so compostable bags were not effective.

“We have changed supplier and use white pedal bin liners. As well as being cheaper, these can be made into fuel pellets.”
