Around £30,000 has been allocated to the council’s roads team which is responsible for maintaining and repairing over 500km of public roads and pavements.

East Dunbartonshire Council’s director of neighbourhood services, Grace Irvine, said: “Around £300,000 has been allocated from last year’s budget to repair surface defects throughout East Dunbartonshire.

“Whilst we undertake regular inspections of the carriageway and footways this process will be intensified over the coming weeks to identify high priority areas that we can target through this project.

“It is anticipated that work will begin around May and residents will be advised of diversions in place whilst these essential repairs and resurfacing works are carried out.”

Council leader Rhondda Geekie said: “We know the condition of our roads is always a concern but it is worse at this time of year after the ice breaks up many surfaces.

“Unfortunately there is not any extra funding to put into services but obviously there was not the need this year to use our severe winter money so rather than just carrying it forward we decided to make it work for us tackling some of the pot holes identified especially by the public.”
