Council push for eyesore property purchase

A dilapidated, derelict building in Barrhead is to be bought by East Renfrewshire Council in a bid to restore it for housing.

The private property, at 25 Divernia Way, has had a Dangerous Building Notice served.

The council has pledged to negotiate with the owner to buy the property and if this fails, the authority will take steps to buy it through a Compulsory Purchase Order.

Councillor Danny Devlin said: “This property has been a blight on the community for years. I’m delighted this step is being taken to bring it back into council ownership and I am sure residents will be too.”

The property will be fully repaired and made available for rent, although the process could take up to three years.
