Councillor Bev Gauld resigns from SNP

ONE of Clydesdale’s longest-serving SNP councillors, the Rev Bev Gauld, has resigned from the party over the legalising of same-sex marriage.

A councillor for 17 years, currently for South Lanarkshire Council’s Clydesdale East Ward, and the former Carnwath kirk minister, he had long flagged up his deep discontent with the SNP Scottish Government policy on the issue.

The passing of the legislation at the Scottish Parliament last Wednesday to allow same-gender marriages finally triggered his long-anticipated resignation of the party whip.
