In February, the Extra reported that Mr McAlpine had challenged the Eastwood Health and Care Centre to come up with a better bus route for residents.

The Labour Councillor for Newton Mearns South has also asked the Health and Care Committee to re-tender this service to cover Eaglesham and Newton Mearns. However, the committee’s Julie Murray said it was “too difficult”.

Cllr McAlpine said: “It is very difficult for Eaglesham and Newton Mearns residents to get to this Clarkston Health and Care Centre. Public money is paying for this small bus no 375 so it should be re-routed. The fight goes on. Please sign my petition for a better bus service to this Health and Care Centre.”

Newton Mearns and Eaglesham areas are not covered by the small bus No 375 which only goes to Busby, Clarkston and Netherlee, First Bus have now made changes to the No 4 and 4A bus for Newton Mearns and Eaglesham which has made the situation worse. The bus service continues to cover parts of Giffnock and Clarkston.

Ian told the Extra: “The petition is going well. More than 100 signed it in Eaglesham in one hour, such is the strength of feeling over this issue.”
