Councillors to decide on Crookfur Park nursery plans

The proposed building at the park in Newton Mearns has attracted considerable opposition due to the loss of green space.
Many members of the Save Crookfur Park group are expected to attend the meeting of East Renfrewshire Council’s planning applications committee, which will be held at the council headquarters in Eastwood Park at 2pm.

Other concerns raised include traffic and parking issues, and the loss of the existing play park.
The site of the proposed 120-place family centre and nursery is currently occupied by the Crookfur Park pavilion and the community play park.
The council says the pavilion is no longer fit for purpose and is earmarked for demolition as part of the proposed development.
If approved, it is intended that the project will be carried out in two phases.

The first phase would involve the demolition of the pavilion and the construction of the family centre and nursery.
Phase two would involved the construction of an extension for community changing facilities.
The proposal consists of a single storey building providing open play spaces, along with dedicated dining, staff and support areas, and a dedicated external play area.
The planning application is recommended for approval.
