The housing services elves are collecting selection boxes, non-perishable food, tins of biscuits and chocolates and small gifts for adults and children.

Items will go to children and families living in temporary accommodation, as well as to local foodbanks, in a bid to help as many of East Ren’s vulnerable community members as possible.

Council workers have been asked to show their generosity - and now members of the public are also being encouraged to donate festive goodies.

Councillor Danny Devlin, housing convener, said: “East Renfrewshire is full of kindhearted and generous people and I know they will want to support this appeal.

“Most of us are looking forward to the festive season but some people may be in difficult circumstances.

“Not only can we help some vulnerable people in our communities, but we can help spread some Christmas cheer.”

Donations are welcome at the council office on Barrhead Main Street right up until December 22.
