Courageous fiancee inspires charity marathon run

A man whose fiancee died after a brave battle with cancer is running the Edinburgh Running Festival Marathon in her memory.

David Allsop is raising money for Breast Cancer Care, which supported him after Deborah Hanlon was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2009, just 10 months after they met.

Deborah, who was from Moodiesburn, was only 33 when she was diagnosed and underwent surgery and radiotherapy.

Sadly, she was later diagnosed with secondary breast cancer and died in November 2012.

David (41) said: “Deborah dealt with her diagnosis and treatment with incredible bravery, strength and dignity. She lived life to the full and loved her family and friends.

“I will be raising money for Breast Cancer Care to raise awareness of the services the charity provides and give something back for the help I received during a very difficult time.

“I know that Debs will be with me every step of the way.”

The festival takes place on May 24 and 25 and includes runs for all ages and abilities - a full and half marathon, and the Hairy Haggis Team Relay.
