Courting top prize in petrol stations’ Oscars

The Kirkie Service Station is in the frame for an industry award that would officially recognise it as the best of its kind in the country.

The Gulf-branded site on Waterside Road has been selected as a finalist for the Best Site over 4m litres category in the annual Forecourt Trader awards.

It has been in business for 40 years, and in 2012 was acquired by Certas Energy and branded in Gulf’s blue and orange livery.

Manager Ruth Burns said: “My team and I are always looking for ways to improve our already high shop and forecourt standards.

“One of our newest initiatives is the Kirkie Car Wash Club, which is proving to be really popular.

“The key to Kirkie’s success is the team of employees here and the pride we take in our customefr service and community activity.”

Judges assessed Kirkie Service Station against set criteria including demonstrating entrepreneurial skill, imagination and dedication in running a successful business.

Customer service, staff motivation, layout, standard of décor, general presentation and atmosphere in the shop, promotional activity and the outlet’s role in the community also figured in their decision to tip Kirkie for an award.
