The procession headed through the village to the crowning ceremony, which saw Kathleen Fleming crown Shannon as her courtiers – champion Archie Damer, flower girl Carmo Monteiro and page boy Jack Taylor – looked on.

This was followed by the prize giving ceremony and the afternoon field events, villagers taking part in contests which ranged from pillow fights to tug o’ war.

That evening all generations of villagers gathered back at the village hall for a family night which featured a disco, live music and games well into the night.

The fun wasn’t over yet as, on Sunday, gala week rounded off with what has become the traditional annual Crawford Duck Race, a good crowd turning out to cheer on the runners.

Crawford Gala Committee chair Mary Renwick praised her fellow villagers in joining up to make the event a success.

She said: “I’d like to say a personal word of thanks to everybody who, in any way, supported the gala week.

“Its success was down to them and ensured that this annual celebration will carry on.
