Events take place in and around the village: hall, pub, park and paddock, from 2pm with activities all afternoon and evening.

The Fun Day was founded in 2005 to replace the gala.

The aim is to bring the village together, to raise some funds and to have a laugh!

“The Fun Day doesn’t follow a traditional Gala Day format,” said Wendy Johnstone. “We offer something a little different. Over the past 10 years, our ‘silly themes’ have included: Alternative Olympics, Wheelbarrow Race, Raft Race, Rocket Challenge and Home-made Bogey Race!

“This year is special, not only because it is the 10th anniversary, but because of its ‘Australian’ theme, chosen in memory of Peter Kennedy, a much-loved resident who passed away last October.

“‘Aussie Pete’ adopted Crawfordjohn as his home and threw himself wholeheartedly into village life. He was a keen supporter of the Fun Day, taking photos and joining in the hilarity!”

All profit will go to the British Heart Foundation.

Troy Kennedy, Pete’s son has sent his support from down under: “ Great stuff! What a fantastic idea! PK, the crazy Aussie he was, would love it!”

Visitors are invited to turn up in fancy dress, and there will be Aussie-themed activities: Surf Simulator, Bushtucker Trials, Hungry Crocodiles, and Roo Race as well as the traditional favourites: FacePainting, Tombola, Stalls, Pony Rides in the Paddock, Heritage Open, Guess the Age Competition, Teas and Homebaking. Crawfordjohn’s resident ‘Rod Stewart’ will serenade visitors in the Pub in the afternoon.

The Party in the Pub kicks off from 5pm, with free burgers and the ever-popular Fun Day Quiz.

If you can’t attend the day but wish to support the cause, tombola and race prizes and donations (cheques to the British Heart Foundation) can be handed in to the Colebrooke Arms.
