Armed man arrested after high profile incident in busy Kilsyth street

Police were forced to act after an armed man was seen at large in Kilsyth’s Market Street yesterday (August 4)

Officers had received a report that a man had been seen in the crowded area around this historic part of town acting aggressively - and in possession of a knife.

Horrified members of the public, including mums with their children were forced to steer clear after officers quickly tackled the suspect who is 19- years-old.

He ran from them on their arrival and a short foot chase ensued.

When he was caught the officers recovered the knife but the matter did not end there.

For a scuffle ensued with police as the man actively resisted arrest.

And he was also found to be in possession of a small quanity of Class C drugs.

The male was held in custody and was expected to have appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court in connection with these alleged offences.
