Arrests made after armed disturbance near Motherwell supermarket

Police have confirmed that three men in total have been arrested following a violent incident near Asda in Motherwell yesterday (July 14)

During this incident which kicked off at 2pm, one man was subjected to a violent assault with weapons.

Officers attended the scene and quickly traced two men to a house nearby where they were arrested.

Officers carried out enquiries and traced a further male involved at another address nearby.

This male had suffered serious injuries during this incident and was conveyed to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment.

His injuries are not life threatening.

During this investigation a number of weapons were recovered.

Two males aged 52 years and 29 years are due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court today (July 15) July in connection with a serious assault, assault, disorder and possession of weapons. .

A 48 year old will also be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in relation to assault, disorder and possession of an Offensive Weapon.

All parties are known to each other and there is no wider risk to the community.

Detective Sergeant Scott Wilson of Lanarkshire CID said “Officers were alerted to this incident by CCTV operators and the local business community.

“Thanks to a swift response and thorough investigation, the males responsible were traced and arrested, while the injured male received the required medical attention.

“The local business community are thanked for their assistance “.
