Beware of BT scam

Last week, the Cumbernauld News warned readers about a telephone scam which saw readers asked for their bank details by a con artist claiming to be from the Post Office.

A number of people got in touch saying that the organisation claimed to owe them money and wanted to “double check” these details so a cheque could be mailed out to them. The Post Office has confirmed it was a scam but now another British institution has been forced to do likewise.

We have heard complaints from more readers who said that a caller claiming to be from BT approached them in this way. However A BT spokesperson has stated: “We’ll never call or email a customer to ask for personal information including bank details unexpectedly.”
