Bomb threats in Viewpark

An investigation has been launched after a '˜bomb' was found in Viewpark on Sunday afternoon.

Around 3.55pm on Sunday afternoon, police were called to a report of a suspicious item found in a close between houses in Myrtle Road.

Police attended and as a precaution some residents were evacuated as the explosive ordnance disposal were called to attend.

The item was made safe with no one being injured and detectives at Wishaw Police Office are appealing for information.

Detective Sergeant Diane Barr said: “Our enquiries are continuing to trace whoever is responsible for leaving this item in the close and their motive.

“Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the local area and are checking through CCTV footage to gather more information.”

A second suspicious item was found in a waste bin within a grass area near to houses in Myrtle Road today (Tuesday) at around 10.45am.

The EOD attended as a precautionary measure however the item was not believed to be in a dangerous condition and there was no requirement for anyone to be evacuated.

Thorniewood councillor Steven Bonnar was stunned to hear news of bomb threats in Viewpark.

He said: “I am alarmed that this kind of incident could happen in Viewpark and I’m just relieved that no one was injured.

“I hope anyone who has information will contact the police to help them catch whoever carried out these acts.”
