Govanhill suspects appear on people trafficking charges

Govanhill residents have made their first public appearance in court where they denied human trafficking charges.

Three men, Vojtech Gombar, 59, Anil Wagle, 36, and Rastislav Adam, 29, were in the dock last week at Glasgow Sheriff Court alongside females Jana Sandorova, 26, and Sylvia Racov, 41.

It’s alleged that all five, from Govanhill, Glasgow, “arranged or facilitated” travel to the UK of three named woman, and others.

Papers from the court claim it was “with the intention of exerting control over prostitution by said women, and others there or elsewhere”.

They are accused of providing accommodation and facilitating travel within the city “for the purposes of the provision of sexual services”.

It is claimed the alleged offence was aggravated by serious organised crime with links to Slovakia.

All five also face a second charge under the Asylum and Immigration Act that they facilitated the travel of the people to the UK “with intent to exploit”.

Gombar and Wagle also face a charge each of being in possession an extreme pornographic image.

There was a joint motion from the Crown and defence lawyers to continue the case to a further pre-trial hearing.

Sheriff Martin Jones QC adjourned the case until a later date and continued bail.
