Hit and run: Police hunt driver after cyclist left unconscious on A81 country road

Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was left lying unconscious on a country road in a hit and run.

The cyclist was struck by a vehicle on Friday, June 26.

Officers said about 9pm on the A81 about 300 meters south of Balfron Station, a black Range Rover overtook a small white car on a blind bend (exact details unknown) travelling north (towards Aberfoyle).

The Range Rover struck the pedal cyclist coming from the other direction. Neither vehicle stopped at the time of the accident.

Police said it is understood the occupants of the Range Rover were aware they had hit the cyclist and continued their journey regardless, however it is believed that the occupants of the small white car would have been unaware the accident had occurred.

A young couple in their late 20’s went to the aid of the cyclist after seeing his bike lying in the road. They found the cyclist unconscious on the verge.

Police are looking to trace the occupants of the small white car and the young couple who traced and assisted the cyclist after the incident.

A police spokesperson said: “We are also asking other motorists who were in the area at the time to check their ‘dash cam’ footage for any images of the small white car or the Black Range Rover.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 and quote incident number 3831 of the 27th June 2020.
