Man sent to prison for 19 months after attack with blade

A man has been jailed for 19 months after a stabbing in Carfin.

Victor Wright (22), of Coursington Tower, Motherwell, admitted using a blade to strike James Rooney on the head to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement in Maryknowe Road on February 13.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard Wright, who admitted breaking a bail night curfew, acted under provocation.

Charges that he shouted abuse, challenged people to fight while he had a hammer and had illegal possession of a mallet were dropped.

Wright was jailed for a year in 2013 for possession of a knife and Sheriff Alasdair MacFadyen said prison was inevitable again given his record and the nature of the latest charge.
