A 46-year-old man has been arrested over the alleged suspicious death of Neilston man, Craig Kearney in East Kilbride.

Craig, 24, was found lying in the road at Lochranza Drive in the Lindsayfield area of the town, a short distance from his girlfriend, Olivia Geraghty’s home.

The former St Luke’s High School pupil was treated at the scene by first aiders initially while paramedics who arrived immediately battled to save his life.

Witnesses claim that the amateur footballer who played for AFC Bonnyholm in Pollok had suffered catastrophic head injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 0220 hours on Sunday 5 March 2017, a 24 year-old man was found injured on Lochranza Drive, near to Lindsayfield Road, East Kilbride.

“Emergency services attended, however the young man died a short time later. He can now be named as Craig Kearney (24) of Kingston Avenue, Neilston.

“A 46 year-old man has been arrested and is presently detained in police custody in connection with the death.

“A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
