Pedestrian is killed while crossing Paisley Road West

Police are appealing for witnesses following an Incident in Ibrox in which an elderly man died.

Around 9.20pm yesterday, (Wednesday, April 19), 79 year-old David Spence, from Clifford Gardens, Ibrox, was crossing Paisley Road West, near to Copeland Road, when it appears he fell and was then struck by a silver Nissan Note car.The male driver of the Nissan was not injured.

Mr Spence was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he died a short time later.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sergeant Kenneth Canavan, Greater Glasgow Road Policing Unit, said: “Mr Spence is seen on CCTV crossing the road then falling to the ground where he was struck by a Nissan Note that was travelling east on Paisley Road West.

“Members of the public, including a passing paramedic, stopped to assist and Mr Spence was taken to hospital but unfortunately he died early this morning (Thursday, April 20).

“I would ask that anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident contact police at the Greater Glasgow Divisional Road Policing Unit on 101.”
