Police urge motorists to help net Stepps gunman

Police have launched a new appeal for information about an attempted murder in Stepps in which a man was shot while sitting in his car.

They particularly want to hear from motorists who were travelling on the M80 around the time of the attack on Sunday, March 12, just after 9pm.

The 42 year-old victim’s right forearm was injured in the shooting.

The person or people responsible for the shooting were within a white Audi estate car, and a car was later found burnt out in Hogarth Park in the Haghill area.

Police are still trying to find how many people were in the Audi, which is known to have sped off down Honeywell Drive and into Dewar Road.

It then drove onto the M80 heading towards Glasgow before finally ending up in Hogarth Park, Haghill.

Enquiries have also shown there were several people on Dewar Road at the time the Audi was making its escape and officers are appealing to them to get in touch.

Detective Superintendent Kenny Graham said: “We are following up a number of lines of enquiry.

“However, we know several people were walking in Dewar Road and in the surrounding areas around the time of the incident.

“I would urge these people to contact us as I’m sure they have information which could assist our ongoing investigation.”

They also want to hear from anyone who may have dash cam footage from the M80 on the night of the murder bid.

DS Graham said: “It could offer us vital footage on the occupants of the car, which could lead us to tracing whoever is responsible for this crime.”

Police are carrying out door-to-door enquiries, and CCTV footage is still being examined.
