Serious assault in Motherwell shop after woman was targeted by duo

A quick trip to a Motherwell mini market for one female customer resulted her being set upon by a younger man and women who subjected her to a serious assault.

The shocking incident occurred at 7.45pm at the Smartways store on Muirhouse Road on Wednesday, May 13, and police are still trying to find the couple, believed to be in their early 20s, who lashed out on the premises.

The emergency services were called to the shop in regard to an unspecified injury meted out in the attack.

The victim, who is 35-years-old, had to be taken to University Hospital Wishaw after the onslaught but was released later in the evening.

Police know that the couple fled from the scene of the crime in a white Ford Fiesta and have also issued a description of the pair.

The male suspect is described as being of slim build with short strawberry blond hair. He was wearing black shorts, a black jumper and black trainers.

The female suspect is described as approximately 5ft 4in tall, of slim build with shoulder length brown hair. She was wearing a light coloured jumper, blue jeans and black trainers.

Now officers are hoping that our readers can help the trace the pair, possibly with footage from their cars.

Detective Constable Graeme Stoddart, of Wishaw CID, said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the Muirhouse Road area around this time and saw any suspicious activity or people matching that description to get in touch.

“If you were driving in the area and have a dash-cam, I would ask you to please check back and see if there is any footage that may assist us in our investigation.”
