Stay safe this Bonfire Night

With Guy Fawkes Night fast approaching, police are urging residents to let them know about any illegal bonfires or dangerous use of fireworks.

And people have been encouraged to stay safe by only attending organised displays in neighbouring areas, as there are none planned for East Dunbartonshire.

David McGowan, Assistant Chief Officer, Scottish Fire and Rescue, said: “Illegal bonfires needlessly take up our crew’s time and put others with genuine emergencies at risk. I would urge any member of the public who sees someone starting an illegal bonfire to contact Crimestoppers. Together we can help each other stay safe this bonfire night”.

Chief Inspector Craig Smith, Area Commander for East Dunbartonshire, added: Of course we want people to enjoy bonfire and firework displays but would like to highlight the dangers associated with unauthorised displays. I’d encourage people to attend official, organised events.

St Maurice’s High School, Cumbernauld – Friday, November 4 (Fireworks 7.30pm)

Drumchapel & West Winterfest, Drumchapel Park – Saturday, November 5 (Fireworks 7pm)

Strathclyde Country Park, Motherwell – Saturday, November 5 (Fireworks 7.15pm)
