Taxi firm staff face up to drunk customer who damaged two cars

Staff on duty in the early hours of Thursday, March 23 at East Ren Taxis got a rude awakening when a customer went berserk.

The male, who appeared under the influence of drink or drugs according to owner Jason Gilchrist, smashed up one vehicle before then launching into a further attack on a second taxi, and seriously assaulting driver Sohail Sattar who was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Jason said: “I was alerted to the incident when I came into the office this morning. One car was so badly damged it has had to be taken off the road, while the other will require repairs.

“I’ve not yet had any update on how Sohail is doing.

“Luckily for us a police car was passing at the time who saw the incident unfolding, stopped and arrested the individual.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: Around 0345 hrs on Thursday 23 March 2017, police were called to a report of a man who had been seriously assaulted in Busby Road, near Sheddens Roundabout, Clarkston. A 22 year old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.”
