Teenagers violently assault man on train

Detectives from British Transport Police have launched an investigation after a man was violently assaulted on a train towards Glasgow.

The assault happened shortly before 5pm yesterday (Tuesday) on board the 4.44pm ScotRail service between Hamilton West and Glasgow Central station.

The two suspects boarded the train at Hamilton West and made a loud anti-social comment towards another passenger on the service.

The victim, a 49-year-old man, glanced over and was then approached by the duo.

It was at this point they began punching the victim multiple times to the head, they also spat at the victim.

The two suspects then left the service at Blantyre.

They are described as being aged 15/16 years and wearing similar light green tracksuits.

Detective Sergeant Dougie Gallacher said: “This was a seemingly unprovoked assault and we are working tirelessly to identify those responsible.

“As you would expect this was a frightening experience for this victim who required hospital treatment for his facial injuries.

“If you were on board this service and witnessed what happened I would encourage you to get in touch with officers immediately. Your information could provide vital in our enquiries.”
