Warning over bike thefts in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth

Police have warned of a spate of bike thefts in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth - and are asking cyclists of all ages to be extra vigilant with their property.

Communities Inspector Neil MacLeod said: “There is a notable increase in the amount of reports of bicycles being stolen.

“This is not unique to our own area and appears to have arisen as a result of bikes being particularly difficult to purchase at present owing to retail restrictions and limitations.

“Anyone owning a bike whether it be child or adult bicycles is advised to take every precaution possible to secure these particularly overnight.

“If owners do not own a suitable lock for their bike then the best advice would be to keep the bike indoors.

“Anyone with any information on recent thefts of bikes should contact police on 101.”
