Weapons common thread in Kilsyth and Cumbernauld arrests

Police have been dealing with a number of incidents which have allegedly involved the use of weapons.

Officers rushed to Kilsyth after 9pm on Saturday (April 25) after a report that a man was in possession of a knife - and that he had allegedly assaulted a 35-year-old female on Low Craigends.

A 33-year-old man was traced then arrested.

Fortunately the alleged victim was not seriously injured as a result of the incident.

There would be another incident at noon the following day amidst reports of an ongoing disturbance at South Barrwood Road. A 33-year-old male who was allegedly in possession of a hammer was then arrested.

The final incident in Kilsyth involved a disturbance in Main Street on Monday April 26 allegedly caused by a teenager who had to be disarmed.

The incident began around 7pm when an 18-year-old man was allegedly seen to smash a window in the street.Police succeeded in tracing him but the matter did not end there.

His next move was to threaten officers with a wooden stick and a bottle. Officers succeeded in removing these items and arrested the man.

Meanwhile police are trying to find out the identity of an armed man involved in a 10.20am knife fight on Cumbernauld’s Millcroft Road on Saturday, April 25

Police later traced a 28 year-old male who was arrested for causing a disturbance and for being in possession of a knife. Anyone with any information on the second man should call 101 quoting crime number NC02030420.

Meanwhkie Communities Officer Neil MacLeod said: “ It is clear the recent good weather has unfortunately tempted too many people to be outside and engage in unacceptable anti-social behaviour.

“ The immediate successful arrests of many of these individuals however highlights the commitment the local officers have to tackling these issues as they are reported.

“Early reporting by the public has resulted in swift and decisive action from police and the arrest of a minority of individuals intent on behaving in an unacceptable manner.

“ Mobile and foot patrols are continuing in our local areas in an attempt to engage and educate regarding current social distancing regulations, and any reports of anti-social behaviour will be acted on and given a proportionate response.”
