Weekend arrests in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth

Police have confirmed that an arrest was made on a routine patrol in Cumbernauld after a man was found in alleged possession of an offensive weapon.

Officers were walking along Carbrain’s Glenhove Road around 7pm on Friday (August 21) when they became suspicious of a 23-year-old man in their midst.

He was stopped and searched and found to have a knife on his person.

However. the matter did not end there as a further search revealed that he was allegedly carrying a small quantity of Class C drugs on his person.

The man was taken into custody and is expected to have appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court by time of going to press.

Meanwhile in Kilsyth. a 42-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged break-in to a house in the town on Saturday (August 22).

It is alleged the man was trying to gain access to homes by trying doors that had been left unlocked overnight between 11pm and midnight

It is also alleged that he succeeded in gaining entry to one such premises in Manse Road and that police traced him to another home nearby once the alarm was raised.

He has been charged with housebreaking with intent to steal and faces another charge of intending to steal from another home.
