Croy’s history comes alive at society’s display

CROY Historical Society has organised an exhibition in the Miners Welfare this month.

From September 10-16, visitors to the centre will be able to view a large number of artifacts detailing local history and listen to a series of talks by experts.

The exhibition is open from 12 noon-6pm Saturday and Sunday and 12 noon-8pm on other days.

Exhibits will include a large number of old photographs and documents, a mock-up of a typical 19th-century worker’s lodgings, various pieces of memorabilia, paintings and writings by the people of Croy and much more. The programme of talks is as follows

Monday 12 - Patricia Weeks on the Antonine Wall; Tuesday 13 - Jim Hutchison on local churches; Wednesday 14 - Tom Dowds on the radical uprising of 1820.

Thursday 15 - Jim Clark on Croy Heritage Project and Friday 16 - Seamus Coleman on life around Croy Station.

All evening talks will commence at 7pm in the main exhibition hall.
