Cumbernauld and Twechar chosen for Commonwealth Games baton relay

The Queen’s baton relay will feature local routes the run up to Glasgow 2014.

The home stretch route where the baton is proudly carried aloft by specially selected members of the public will take in Cumbernauld on Wednesday, June 23.

The scenes will mirror those of the special day two years ago when the Olympic flame made its way through Cumbernauld.

Already the news has been welcomed by MSP Jamie Hepburn who said:“The eyes of the world will be on Glasgow and Scotland for the duration of the Games and in the run up to it, and I am pleased that they will be able to glance at Cumbernauld as well. The relay is a a great way of bringing together communities throughout the country in the days and weeks before the games themselves kick off.
