Cumbernauld burst water main has sparked landslide

Scotrail have confirmed that the line which links Falkirk Grahamston to Glasgow Queen Street is waterlogged in the Abronhill area, bringing diversions into play.

We can confirm that that services from Queen Street will no longer stop at Cumbernauld and will be diverted via Croy Station.

A Scotrail Alliance spokesperson said: “We are working with Scottish Water to resolve the problem and specialist engineers are working on site, assessing damage to the railway.

“We will repair the line as quickly as we possibly can and get trains back on the move.’’

North Lanarkshire Council has confirmed that five schools have no water supplies due to the incident. We can confirm that they are Carbrain, Kildrum, St Mary’s and St Margaret of Scotland primaries

A spokesman said: “The schools have drinking water and arrangements have been made to provide school lunches. We have arranged with our property services for a bowser to go to all schools and top up their tanks.

Meanwhile it emerges that the disruption has spread beyond Abronhill, Kildrum and Carbrain to Seafar and Condorrat.

Cumbernauld Village is not thought to be affected at this point.

A number of local businesses including JD Weatherspoons and Costa have closed as a consequence of having no water.

Tenants in the town centre, including the Cumbernauld News, have been told that the situation may last for 24 hours but Scottish Water said it was unable to confirm this piece of information at this point.
