Cumbernauld bus base boost is worth £4 million

Stagecoach has handed Cumbernauld a giant vote of confidence by transferring its West of Scotland operation to Carbrain. '¨

The bus group will close its Blochairn-based operation on April 30 and relocate with a £4 million fleet of 18 new green double decker vehicles for its Cumbernauld to Glasgow route.

All 218 staff in Glasgow have been offered positions at the Glencryan depot which Stagecoach took over last May.

Managing director for Stagecoach West Scotland, Tom Bridge, said: “The new investment and the planned move to Cumbernauld will give us a good platform to deliver higher quality bus 
services in the area.

“I am confident it will mean we can build a sustainable bus network for 
the future.”

MSP Jamie Hepburn said: “This is great news for the local area and hopefully a good demonstration of of the company’s commitment 
to Cumbernauld.”

Andrew Stephen from Cumbernauld Commuters’ Association said: “This will enhance transport provision.

“A locally based depot and team also means that the business can react more quickly to bad weather situations 
or disruptions.”
