Cumbernauld could have word on new superstore soon

A decision on whether to allow supermarket giant Morrisons to open a store in Cumbernauld could be made within the month.

Planners at North Lanarkshire Council are waiting to receive a final report on the giant project which could bring a jobs bonanza to Westfield. A date will then be set for the final hearing. A spokesman for Morrisons said: “We are pleased that our application for a new store in Cumbernauld is scheduled for its determination and await the council’s decision.’’The proposal could see the development of a seven acre site which lies adjacent to Broadwood Stadium and could bring up to 300 new jobs to the town. Morrisons which is based in Leeds said it was part of a plan to expand its business portfolio in Scotland.
