Cumbernauld's town centre is top of the list in damning report

For North Lanarkshire Council itself admits that Cumbernauld has the highest number of empty units of any shopping area within its boundaries.

The recent agenda of the North Area Committee which related to town centre improvements revealed that there were no fewer than 44 empty premises within the mall.

Councillor Allan Graham who chairs Cumbernauld Campsies Centres, which oversees the town centre said: “Clearly we would prefer units to be occupied rather than lying empty but this is something for the mall owners to address.

“While we are happy to meet and discuss potential areas of support, there’s limited assistance we can do.

“What we can’t do is market them on behalf of the owners.”

The matter will be discussed at the upcoming meeting of Cumbernauld Community Forum at Cumbernauld College on Tuesday, March 8 at 7pm

Councillor Graham will be the guest speaker and all are welcome to attend.
