Czech mate – sausage firm says there will be no impact on local firm

A MAJOR local employer has insisted there will be no local impact as a result of a new development in the Czech Republic.

Sausage skin maker Devro – based in Moodiesburn – recently reported a fall in profits, despite a rise in sales. The company has nearly completed a £25m capital expansion programme at its plant in the Czech Republic, one month ahead of schedule and within budget.

A spokesperson insisted: “Moodiesburn is absolutely fundamental to Devro. There are no plans to scale it back, whatsoever. Moodiesburn has also had a recent investment.”

Devro chairman Steve Hannam said: “The board remains confident of a strong second half and growth in full year earnings.”
