Declutter to refresh: Professional stylists to help Silverburn shoppers spark joy

Glasgow shoppers are being encouraged to recycle before they refresh their wardrobes this season as Silverburn announces it will host an Autumn fashion and beauty event with a difference.

’Declutter to Refresh’ takes place between October 25 and 26 and is asking shoppers to donate their pre-loved clothes to poverty alleviation charity Oxfam, which will be in the centre accepting donation bags to ensure less clothing goes to landfill.

Oxfam accepts all quality pre-loved items for re-sale in it’s charity shops, online shop or recycled in it’s sorting centre. The money made from the sale of these clothes is used to fund Oxfam’s work to eliminate poverty around the world.

Volunteers will be accepting washed and pressed garments and the first 50 customers on both days will receive a £5 gift voucher to spend in the centre.

After handing in their old clothes, shoppers can go and explore the ‘Declutter to Refresh’ area outside Debenhams, where they’ll get the chance to meet three professional stylists who are on hand giving out free, expert advice on giving an old wardrobe new love and introducing customers to the capsule concept.

Inspired by the Marie Kondo phenomenon, the stylists have used only 25 items to create 100 brand new A/W 19 looks. The outfits will be displayed in four giant wardrobe pods, giving shoppers a chance to browse and get inspired this season’s trends.

London-based Lauren Jobling is one of the stylists travelling to Glasgow and has a wealth of experience as a personal stylist to celebrities such as model and Celebrity Big Brother star, Chloe-Jasmine Whichello and actress and singer Heather Peace. She’ll be joined by Londoner Style writer, Natalie Robinson, who is also the founder of the personal styling service, Style Icon Ltd and Scottish stylist, actress and presenter, Vivien Taylor, who has styled for Pringle of Scotland, FCUK, Ted Baker and Joules, as well as working at fashion events at the Cannes Film Festival. Vivien’s aim is to take shoppers out of their comfort zone by introducing them to new items and helping them to find the perfect capsule wardrobe.
